Buying advice

Tips for our North East customers on maintenance of roll end carpets
Before buying a carpet you should be aware of the different fibres and what is best suited to your lifestyle. Our professional sales team can help you choose the right option for you and make sure you get the best service possible.

Polypropylene

The most popular fibre on the market today is polypropylene, which is a great ‘family friendly’ fibre. The benefit of having a carpet which is 100% polypropylene is that it is bleach cleanable, fade resistant and great value for money. Polypropylene twist piles can be prone to flattening under footfall more so than wool or nylon, so if you choose a polypropylene carpet for high traffic areas choose a shorter, tighter pile to reduce this.
Polypropylene is the most popular man made carpet fibre as it is resistant to stains. This is because the colour is locked in during the manufacturing process. In fact it can be cleaned using a part bleach cleaning solution making it an extremely practical choice for today’s modern families.
Top benefits of polypropylene carpet:
• Highly stain resistant
• Easy to clean
• Durable
• Good colour fastness
• Good value for money

Wool

We also stock a top quality range of Hugh Mackay/Durham twist wool carpets! Being a natural fibre from a sustainable resource, wool carpets have a low impact on the environment, as well as being biodegradable. Wool does not flatten easily and keeps its shape well, although with wool carpets they are more prone to fading, due to the dying process during production, however nothing can stop any carpet from fading in high sun light areas.
Top benefits of wool carpet:
• Hard wearing and long lasting
• Retains its pile shape and height
• Recovers quickly from furniture compression
• Is naturally flame retardant
• Environmentally friendly and sustainable fibre”
